Introduction of Electrical Engineering Sub-Team
Sub-teams are specialized teams that produce particular subsystems defined by the project’s need. In addition to contributing towards the overall product, sub-teams serve as an opportunity for UCR-UAS members to engage in both leadership and technical development roles.
The Electrical Engineering (EE) sub-team designs and evaluates the electrical systems on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) while balancing power consumption with the energy available. This year, we will be focused on the details of how to make the electrical systems work together; for example, how to deploy the VTOL motors onboard the UAV when the autopilot identifies that it has reached a stage of the mission where they are required. We are also continuing with our analysis of the powerplant of the UAV, and we will be attempting to rapidly utilize new hardware to enhance our current data acquisition capabilities. In addition to this, the EE team assists with designing the power supply for the ground station.
EE Sub-Team Lead Job Description
The EE team lead is primarily responsible for keeping the EE team as a whole on track to meet its goals by directing weekly meetings, helping members access the resources they need to perform their duties, and evaluating the progress of the team. The EE lead is also heavily involved in the research and development that the team performs, although they perform more management work than a general member would. For example, the EE lead is in charge of managing any Github repositories used by the team.
Maintain a clear and open line of communication between the Project Coordinator and sub-team leads.
Organize and facilitate regular meetings with sub-team members.
Relay announcements and other pertinent information between sub-team leads and sub-team members.
Meet deadlines specified by the project timeline.
Attend and report project updates at weekly leads meeting and any other necessary meetings.
Attend the 2023 AUVSI-SUAS Competition (typically held in Patuxent River, Maryland) in June 2023 or select and train another EE sub-team member to represent the EE team.
